Ibrahim Rahman shortlisted for media award

Young journalist Ibrahim Rahman has been shortlisted as a finalist in the “Regional Journalist of the Year” category at this year’s Asian Media Awards. Ibrahim is the first ever nominee of Bangladeshi origin to be shortlisted in this category. The award is in recognition of the work of an individual working in TV, radio, print and/or online at a regional or local level. Nominees will have produced consistent and varied work at a regional level.

Ibrahim attended the official shortlist announcement at London’s ITV Studios on 29th September, where the full Asian Media Awards shortlist was unveiled in front of invited finalists, judges and event partners from across the country. Guests were welcomed by ITV’s Commissioning Editor for Entertainment, Asif Zubairy. Speakers at the event included award-winning journalist and author Mihir Bose; Mike Thiedke, Director of Public Engagement at Plan UK; broadcaster, writer and author Sarfraz Manzoor; and ITN producer Roohi Hasan. The event was sponsored by the University of Salford, which is supporting Plan UK and the charity’s “Because I Am A Girl” campaign.

The main awards night will take place at the end of the month at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate. The event will showcase the very best talent working in the Asian media industry and those working in the mainstream media.

Ibrahim was nominated as a finalist for his work over the past year with BBC Radio Cambridgeshire (Sunday Breakfast show), a four part Ramadan series and for helping with the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations in Cambridge. He has also been one of the main hosts of “Cambridge 105 Sport” – a live show covering local and national sport which is aired every Saturday from 2-5pm and is an assistant producer at the BBC Asian Network. His film “Ramadan Roundup 4” was nominated for a national film award.

Ibrahim said: “It’s an honour to be considered for such a prestigious award and this has given me further impetus to better myself even more.”
