IT WAS A costly party for Kasim Hussain, 18, of Clifford Road, Canning Town – six years in jail, to be precise. It was an even costlier party for his victim, who received serious injuries to his chest and a collapsed lung.
The party took place on 23rd November 2019 in a house in Canning Town. An 18 year old guest accidentally bumped into a group of young men who had gate-crashed the party. The group turned on him – punching him. One of the group then produced a knife and stabbed him several times – and then made off.
The police and London Ambulance Service had to come to the scene. The London Ambulance Service took the victim to hospital. The police then launched a man hunt to find the man who had done the stabbing. Four days later, Hussain handed himself in to a police station. He was charged with several offences, including attempted murder.
Hussain was sentenced at the Old Bailey on 3rd July. He was jailed for a total of five years for Section 18 Grievous Bodily Harm and Possession of an Offensive Weapon. He was also jailed for twelve months for robbery – a sentence which arose out of any unrelated incident.
Detective Constable Mohammad Belal Khan from the North East Command Unit said, “This was a violent assault that was unprovoked and resulted in a young man requiring critical medical treatment. It is fortunate that the injuries sustained were not more severe. A massive thank you must be said to all the first responders involved as well as all the vulnerable victim and witnesses.”
