Jail for killer of Hackney man

Moses Fadairo, 25, of Hackney was killed last September. At the Old Bailey this week, Christopher Erunse, 28, of Greenwich – who had been his “friend” – was sentenced to serve 18 years in prison for killing him.

The story which police pieced together was that Erunse had damaged the door of Fadairo’s mother’s house in the early hours of 25th September, and that Fadairo and two other men retaliated by attempting to break into the home of Erunse’s sister. Later that day, Erunse and Fadairo met up in Chatsworth Road, Hackney E5. Erunse was accompanied by Bradley Wynter, 28, of the Pembury Estate, Hackney and Fadairo by two unidentified males.

There was an altercation, and Fadairo stabbed Erunse in the leg. Erunse produced a handgun and fired at least twice, and one of the bullets struck Moses in the chest. CCTV captured footage of Erunse passing the weapon to Wynter, who hid it in his jacket and then helped Erunse make a getaway. The firearm has never been recovered.

Police were called as unknown parties reported hearing shots. Officers, specialist firearms officers and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene and found Moses with injuries consistent with being shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination held at Poplar Mortuary two days later gave the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest.

Four days after the incident, Erunse was arrested by officers from West Midlands Police on board a plane at Birmingham International Airport attempting to travel to Amsterdam.

Erunse was taken to Dagenham police station where he gave a “no comment” interview. He was charged with murder on 1st October 2015. Last week he was found not guilty of murder or attempted murder, but guilty of manslaughter. He was also convicted of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, for which he was sentenced to a ten year period of imprisonment (which will run at the same time as his 18 year sentence for manslaughter).

Nine days after Erunse was stopped from leaving the country, Wynter was arrested in Hackney and was charged with possession of a firearm. This week, he was sentenced to a five year term of imprisonment on that charge. His five year sentence will be served after he has finished serving a prison sentence of three and a half years for an offence connected to the supply of illegal drugs.

Four other men were arrested during the police investigation, but they were released without charge.
