THE MAN who stabbed his victim to death in Lansbury Estate Park, in broad daylight, appeared at the Old Bailey last month and was sentenced to serve 22 years in prison.
Yasin Omar Amare, 29, of Pawleyne Close, Penge, had been found guilty of murdering Gleb Stanislavovitch Zhebrovsky (known as Gleb Stalnoy) at the Old Bailey earlier in the month. The verdict came at the end of a second trial: the first trial had ended late last year, with the jury unable to reach a verdict.
The murder and his victim were known to each but had fallen out. Stalnoy went to see Amare to try to sort out their differences, and Amare told him to wait in the Lansbury Estate Park. When Amare got to the Park, he stabbed Stalnoy three times – before fleeing the scene. A police investigation managed to identify and trace him, and then to collect evidence to justify a prosecution.
