IT WON’T BE a day on the sofa with non-stop chocolate for Leytonstone resident Kai Dickinson, 20. He’ll be at Silverstone, one of 25 bikers taking part in the British Superbikes Junior Supersport Competition.
It’s taken Kai four years of racing at club level to reach this pinnacle of competitive riding. He spent the first three of those years riding a Kawasaki Ninja 300 with the British Motorcycle Racing Club (Bemsee) in the Team Green Junior Cup, which is sponsored by Kawasaki and Auto Cycle Union. Last year he moved up to the Senior Cup – finishing the season as runner up and picking up 18 trophies on the way.

Kai will be using a brand new Kawasaki Ninja 400 in the Supersport competition. The bike was prepared by MSS Performance, a company based in Colchester, and Kai acknowledges the support of his father, Mark Dickinson.
Kai explained the technical challenges he faces in following his chosen sport and his plans for the future. “It’s so competitive at national level that a coupe of tenths on a lap can be the difference between a podium and being outside the top ten,” he said. “I am working on a two-year plan where 2019 is about learning the tracks we will visit, getting comfortable with the new bike and refining my set-up. If I can make it into the top ten I’d be delighted. By 2020 I hope to be racing at the front for podiums and bagging lots of winners trophies.”
Kai is now looking for East London or Essex businesses who could sponsor him. Companies would receive publicity in return for meeting some of Kai’s costs.
