A FIGHT at a music event in Ilford nearly a year ago led to the death of Akeem Dylon Barnes, who was known as Dylon. On 6th November, Jean Marc Dable, 25 and of no fixed abode, appeared at the Old Bailey and pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Last week he returned to the Court for sentencing and was sent to prison for twelve years.
It was an unusual case from the start. A music event had taken place in some converted garages in Telegraph Mews, Seven Kings, on 24th November last year. Just after 6am, reports came in to police that people connected with the event had been fighting outside. Police went to the Mews, but no one had been seriously injured.
However, soon after the police visit to the Mews, more reports came in: this time that a man had been stabbed in Ilford Lane. When police arrived, they found Dylon – who had suffered serious stab injuries. Police administered first aid until paramedics reached the scene and took over. The London Ambulance Service took Dylon to an East London hospital, where he said died just after noon the next day. A post mortem later confirmed that the stab wound had caused his death.
The Court heard that Dylon and Dable had both gone to the music event. Although there had been no issues between the two of them, each was in a different group of people – and there were disagreements between the groups which escalated into that fight outside the venue. The Court was told that Dylon had been trying to calm the situation down, while Dable was being restrained by others in his group. Sadly, Dable managed to break free and he lunged at Dylon and stabbed him.
Dable had also been injured in the fight and six days after it took place police went to the hospital where he was receiving medical treatment and arrested him.
Detective Inspector Adam Callaghan, said, “Dylon’s life was taken from him in a brutal fashion and Dable will now spend a significant period of time in prison where he can no longer pose a threat to anyone. Dable alone made the decision to carry a knife and this, as we see all too often, has resulted in the death of another young person in London. Dylon’s family are devastated and little to no comfort will be felt by them today as they continue to grieve for their loved one. I would like to thank the investigative team who worked so relentlessly to secure a conviction.”
