OFFICERS FROM THE Metropolitan Police Homicide and Major Crime Command have launched a murder investigation after a 20 year old man was fatally stabbed in the chest in Plashet Park on Sunday afternoon.
It was just after 4pm when the emergency services were called. Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service carried out emergency treatment of the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A post mortem is expected to be held today, Tuesday 17th, to establish the formal cause of death. The police are trying to trace the victim’s next of kin and to hold a formal identification of the body.
Early indications are that the victim was one of a group of friends who were sat out when a group of males approached them. It is thought that a fight broke out, during which the stabbing occurred.
A 16 year old was arrested yesterday, Monday, 16th on suspicion of murder and is currently being held in custody at an East London police station.
DCI Jamie Piscopo, who is leading the investigation, said, “This was a violent attack on a young man who sadly died from the injuries inflicted. This all happened in the middle of the afternoon in a park busy with people, and I would ask anyone who saw the incident to come forward and speak to us.”
