Emdad Rahman: The Beani Bazar Education Trust has appointed a new committee to oversee an educational support drive to boost literacy and numeracy rates as well as supporting young people who wish to take up further education. The inauguration ceremony took place at a packed Water Lily in Mile End, east London, and guests included Shadow Education Minister Rushanara Ali MP. She said; “The Labour Party has supported education programmes in Bangladesh and it is a great passion of mine. I hope that we can continue to provide promising students with more support in the future.” Other guests included Shelim Uddin, MP for Sylhet 5 region Zakigonj & Khanaighat; Tower Hamlets First Councillor, Abdul Asad, the longest serving councillor in the borough; Tower Hamlets Labour Group leader Rachel Saunders and Beani Bazar Municipality Mayor Tofozzul Hussain. New Chair Habibur Rahman Moyna said: “We thank everyone for the trust shown in this committee and we will work day and night to help promote education in our region in Bangladesh. Education offers the greatest stepladder to success and we call on talented people from our community to come forward and support our plans and initiatives.”
