Newham acid attacker pleads guilty

JOHN TOMLIN of Colman Road, Canning Town was arrested in early August and charged with two counts of committing grievous bodily harm with intent.

The charges arose out of an incident on 21st June, when two cousins were sat in a parked car on Tollgate Road, E16 – and someone threw a corrosive liquid into the car, causing them both severe injury.

Now Tomlin has appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court and entered a plea of not guilty to those charges – but he did plea guilty to two counts of inflicting grievous bodily harm. He is due to go to trial on 27th November.

The two cousins, Resham Khan and Jameel Mukhtar, were celebrating Ms Khan’s 21st birthday when they were attacked. They are now slowly recovering from their injuries, which include burns to the face and body. Ms Khan, who is a student at Manchester Metropolitan University, suffered damage to her left eye. Mr Mukhtar has suffered severe psychological trauma. Both of them wait for justice to be done.
