A YEAR HAS passed since a brutal, cowardly and senseless racist attack in Bragg Close, Dagenham. Although police have not yet arrested or charged anyone in connection with the attack, they have not given up hope of solving the case.
Having followed several lines of inquiry, police have now released the above image of a man they would like to identify, find and question about the attack which took place at around 9.30pm on Sunday, 21st July. He is described as a white male around 5ft 6ins to 5ft 7 ins tall and of chubby build.
A black man had parked his car in Bragg Close and went to fetch some food from a nearby take-away. As he drove off, two young white men in a dark coloured car shouted racist abuse at him – and he confronted them about this. A crowd of around 20 men then turned up and attacked him. The victim did manage to get up and run off and call 999. The gang finished up by damaging his car and stealing property from it.
Police believe that the group of men had been drinking in the Roundhouse puc, in nearby Lodge Avenue.
Detective Constable Adelaide Halliday, the investigating officer from the East Area’s CID, said, “This was a violent, unprovoked, racially motivated attack on the victim, which has not only left him with a physical scar but emotional ones too. I would appeal for anyone who can identify or knows the man in the image to contact police as soon as possible. I would also ask for anyone that may have been drinking in the nearby Roundhouse pub that evening, Sunday, 21st July 2019, who are aware of this incident to contact police. If you would prefer not to speak to the police, you can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously.”
•Anyone with information about the man in the image or about the incident itself is asked to contact police on 101 and quote reference CAD 8064/21JUL2019. Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111 and give information anonymously.
