A MAN IN HIS 20s was injured as a result of police firing shots in Mandeville Street, Hackney E5 on Monday.
It was approximately 10.50pm on Monday when the police received reports that there had been a robbery on a vehicle in Hackney. The reports included the information that firearms had been seen there.
Police conducted an initial investigation, armed police attended a property in Mandeville Street – and while they were there the police fired shots. It has not been revealed how many officers discharged their firearms, nor how many shots were fired.
The young man injured by the shots was taken to an East London hospital, where he had surgery. He is in a critical but stable condition.
Following standard procedure in cases where police firearms are discharged, this incident has been reported to the Metropolitan Police Directorate of Professional Standards and referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which has launched a formal investigation.
