The SNT competition has become a permanent fixture in the East London football calendar for the past eight years and is the brainchild of Councillor Abdal Ullah, former member of the Metropolitan Police Authority. It is run in conjunction with the Metropolitan Police and a number of other public bodies and is testament to all the hard work being undertaken by community groups, the Met police and the council to tackle crime and anti social behaviour through sport participation.
The 9th annual Safer Neighbourhood Tournament will be held on the 17th and 18th of April 2011. The knock out stages will be played at Hackney Marshes with 40 teams participating. There will also be a 32 senior team knock out tournament at Hackney Marshes on the 17th April. The winning prize is £1,000, with the runners up receiving £500. There will also be a separate event for under 16’s. Councillor Ullah said: “The tournament has gone from strength to strength and we are very proud to have been recognised as a leading grassroots tournament in London, forming part of the England 2018 World Cup Bid.
“Our previous successes have included hosting the FA Cup, the Premiership trophy and the Charity Shield, and we have a number of surprises for this years tournament.
