Mohammad Badrul Alam Chowdhury (Bappy) smashed 92 and took two crucial wickets as Scintilla stormed a comeback to take the points against Hawks CC.
Scintilla were 70 for six when Chowdhury stepped up to the crease after Orett Hoilett had ripped through the home team top order. His gargantuan effort sent his team into tea on 223 all out after 43.2 overs.
The ever dangerous Jason Samuels took three wickets for Hawks, with Joshua Cole (2) and David Sweeney (1). Samuels also scored 50 as Hawks were bowled out for 148 after 40 overs. Nobel Rahman and Ayaz Karim took three wickets each, Sajal Rahman 1 and Ishaq Shawn 1 to add to two from Chowdhury.
In a great show of team solidarity, Scintilla celebrated the win with Club Captain Ahmed Choudhury presenting a cake to newly married wicketkeeper Hanif Kibria.
Captain Ayaz Karim said, “We were under huge pressure after the loss of early wickets but Bappy was immense. It takes one man to have a standout game and he stepped up today. This is a tremendous win.”
Man of the match Chowdhury added, “I fell just short of a century which I’m disappointed about – but overall I can’t complain, especially as we gained the points for a crucial win.”
