POLICE HAVE released the image of a man they want to identify and speak to in connection with a sexual assault which took place on an eastbound No. 25 bus between Whitechapel and Mile End. The incident occurred at approximately 7.30am on Sunday, 2nd July.
The victim was sat in the middle of the back seat of the bus. The assailant boarded the bus at Whitechapel and sat down beside her. He sexually assaulted her. She confronted him – and he then left the bus at Mile End.
The woman managed to take a picture of her assailant, which has now been released by police. The suspect is described as Asian, between 60 and 65, with grey hair and a beard. He was carrying a backpack.
Detective Inspector Paul Smyth, who is from the Roads and Transport Policing Command, said, “We would like to talk to the man pictured about this sexual assault which left the victim shaken and upset. Sexual assaults of this nature are totally deplorable and we will always investigate these types of offences thoroughly. If you know who this man is, we would like to hear from you.”
