WHAT WERE WE listening to 50 years ago? Here’s a short series on the hits of 1969 – two years after the Summer of Love, the year that humans landed on our moon, the last year of the 1960s.
Half a century ago, we were listening to Credence Clearwater Revival’s Bad Moon Rising. The track has often confused listeners: does it have a bleak message, despite the upbeat tempo and catchy melody? It’s an “apocalypse” song, warning of perhaps an ecological or a political catastrophe that was heading our way – how appropriate for our times too!
The song was Number One in the UK for three weeks in September 1969, but it has been in frequent use ever since on a number of films, TV shows and video games.
