WHAT WERE WE listening to 50 years ago? Here’s a short series on the hits of 1969 – two years after the Summer of Love, the year that humans landed on our moon, the last year of the 1960s.
Half a century ago, we were listening to Fleetwood Mac play Albatross. We weren’t singing along – as this is one of the rare instrumental tracks to do well in the charts. The single was released in late 1968 and made the number one slot in the UK charts at the end of January 1969, occupying the top slot for just one week. It has been used by a number of films and TV programmes and, most recently, in Marks & Spencer’s adverts.
