Sporting Bengal United 4-0 Halstead Town
Sporting Bengal United turned on the style as opponents Halstead Town were hammered 4-0 during a second round qualifying FA Vase clash at Mile End Stadium. Sporting had enjoyed a rich vein of form coming into this tie, winning three games in the last seven days. Prior to this clash, Anwar Uddin’s troops had seen off high flying Basildon 1-0 and Enfield 5-0 in midweek.
As the referee blew his whistle, early pressure from the home side paid dividends as Tunde Adewunmi converted neatly in the sixth minute. Despite Sporting pressure, Halstead managed to frustrate their opponents and the score remained unchanged until half time.
Former Dagenham and Redbridge captain Uddin changed formation, and Sporting came out with attacking intent. Twenty minutes into the second half Yacine Teladjati doubled the score with a well worked finish. As the clock counted down it was the superior fitness of Sporting that came to the fore as Adewunmi completed his brace in the 85th minute to make it 3-0. With the seconds ticking down to the end of play, Prince Williams applied the kiss of death to beat the keeper in a one-on-one on 89 minutes.
Apart from an airtight defence, Adewunmi and 17 year old Williams have been in blistering form with both scoring 4 goals in 3 games for Sporting. Sporting manager Anwar Uddin said: “I’m absolutely buzzing with my team today. They gave me everything and then some more. We will enjoy this 4-0 win and our progression into the next round of the FA Vase.”
Sporting now progress through to the FA Vase First Round proper.
