Spring’s still blooming at local Cemetery Park

THERE’S STILL plenty going on at Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park as Spring flowers and wildlife enjoy the season. Sadly, formal events have had to be cancelled indefinitely.

The lack of events means that the Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park have had to issue an emergency appeal for funding, so that they can retain their staff and prepare for the day when they can return to the Park and get back to the work of keeping it well maintained.

To help those regular visitors who are no longer able to drop by to live with their withdrawal symptoms, the Friends are holding a series of talks over Zoom. Residents who have never visited the Park are encouraged to tune in too – and discover what you are missing. On 10th April there is a talk on hyenas and on 17th April the topic is Park Poetry. Both events start at 6.30pm. Check the events page on the Friends website for details.

Despite the Lockdown, some aspects of ordinary life continue. The Friends are encouraging residents to submit objections to a proposal to redevelop the Bow Common Gas Works site. The idea is to build a large tower block – which could block light from the Park. See the campaign newsletter here:

If you can’t get to the Park, here are some Spring photos to enjoy.
