THERE’S A WEEK of virtual debate taking place from Monday, 16th November to mark the ongoing battle to persuade world leaders to tackle climate change – with the urgency it deserves.
The UN Climate Change Conference, COP26, due to be held this month has been put back a year and will now take place in November 2021. It will be held at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow. To fill the gap, the COP26 Coalition is holding a range of events to “educate, strategise, co-ordinate, build power and connect within our global justice movements”.
Medact will be organising an event during the week’s global gathering. Entitled Why Health Justice means Climate Justice, it takes place from 6pm-7.30pm on Monday, 16th November. A line up of eminent activists will discuss the connections between health and climate. What impact are the extractive industries having on public health? Can the Green New Deal grow to deliver a Public Health New Deal? There will be time for questions and to address methods of organising the grassroots over the next year in the run up to COP26.
The event links two themes that are vital for the future of humanity: survival of the planet, and survival of the human race as we battle COVID-19. Book your place now – and get ready to do your bit to win this war!
