A FURTHER EIGHT MEN appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 23rd August, and received jail sentences after pleading guilty at earlier hearings to a range of charges in connection with the supply of illegal drugs.
This is the second batch of suppliers to be jailed as a result of Operation Continuum – a four month investigation which has included the use of covert surveillance. The operation is centred on the supply of drugs – and the consequences in terms of violence, drug-related crime and Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) – in the Whitechapel area, but those sentenced this month come from all over Tower Hamlets.
Those jailed this month were charged after a series of police raids in June and July, carried out by Tower Hamlets police with assistance from the Territorial Support Group, police from neighbouring boroughs and the Metropolitan Police Dog Unit. Fifty properties were searched, with police recovering over £60,000 in cash, four stun guns and over half a kilo of Class A drugs – in addition to making the arrests.
