LONDON UNDERGROUND (LU) workers who are based at London Bridge and are members of the RMT union are set to go on strike at 10pm on Sunday. It is not clear what effect this will have on the Tube network.
The strike is the latest move in a row between management and union members over the sacking of a member of staff. The union claimed that the staff member was assaulted by a member of the public who was trying to avoid paying their fare. LU management has responded by claiming that it had held a thorough investigation before sacking the member of staff, and the conclusion was that the staff member had behaved in an unacceptable way to a travelling member of the public.
Sunday’s strike may only be the first step in the industrial action. RMT station workers across the LU network will now take part in a ballot over whether to join in the industrial action, which could include further strikes being taken.
