UAE bans “Bangistan”

Bangistan is a comic tale with a strong underlying message highlighting the futility of violence, religious divisions, cultural prejudice, and promoting the message of peace, religious unity and harmony in society. The satirical film was released on 7th August.

Unfortunately, the film’s message has not gone down well in the UAE: the film is to be banned in the country, as its board of censorship finds the film offensive.

The film’s lead star, Riteish Deshmukh, responded to the news of the ban, saying, “It is very disappointing that the Censor board finds the film offensive, as there is no such content in the film. We shall be sending it to the re-examining committee.”
