UK Bangladeshi Golf Soc Rookies put through paces

THE UK Bangladeshi Golf Society (UKBGS) has entered its third official month, and the forum takes pride in supporting its new members. A learner day was recently held to support a group of rookie members.

The Club itself is formed of golfers of all abilities, including beginners. The UKBGS has started to encourage beginners and newcomers to take up golf by offering regular training sessions with society pros, Jamal Rahman, Jilu Mannan and friend of the Society, Spencer Varley – all of whom are established golfers.

With membership increasing, the UKBGS and its rookie members take part in regular training sessions with PGA qualified coach Mark Richecoeur of the Short Game Golf Academy at David Lloyd Golf, Hampton. Richecoeur said, “It was an immense pleasure to work with the rookies. They seem to be very passionate about not just golf but also the UK Bangladeshi Golf Society.”

The learner day started off with a 90-minute group lesson with Richecoeur, which was followed by the first ever UKBGS Rookie Cup. It was decided that the winner would be crowned Rookie of the Year 2017. The Cup was won by Hussain of East London, who also won the first Rookie Cup at Richings Park in October’s tournament.

The champ said, “I am extremely proud to be a part of this great group. This is a great club and great sport. Seeing a lot of people from the Bangladeshi community having fun and socialising means a lot to me. I’m very proud to accept this award, but really we are all winners.”

The next tournament is now open for registration for all levels of golfers. The Nashir Majumder VP Open will take place at Cranleigh Golf Club, Surrey.
