EMDAD RAHMAN has been labelled an “Amazing Londoner” and received an outstanding award for volunteering in the community.
The Barking and Dagenham resident – who volunteers in his home borough as well as in Redbridge, Newham and Tower Hamlets – received long service recognition at the Mayor of London’s Volunteer Awards 2019, where he met actress and disability rights campaigner Samantha Renke.
Speaking after receiving his award from Deputy Mayor Debbie Weekes-Bernard Emdad said, “I’m thrilled and privileged. I would like to dedicate this recognition to all those around me who fuel my enthusiasm.
“We volunteer because we are passionate, but being recognised is always welcome and it’s nice to feel appreciated. Thank you to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor for bringing together so many amazing people under one roof.”
Emdad has recently returned from delivering aid in Bosnia, where he did some football coaching too. He was quickly off to Bangladesh as part of a team opening a boat school for poverty stricken water dwellers.
