Tower Hamlets Two jailed for sexual assault

JAIL SENTENCES OF 13 years and 11 years were handed down to two young men from Tower Hamlets at Snaresbrook Crown Court last month after they were found guilty of rape and related charges at a hearing in September.

The incident took place on 9th November last year. The Court hear that Mizad Miah and Belal Ahmed picked up the 21 year old victim late in the evening, pretending they were going to show her round a flat she could rent. Instead, they stopped the car to buy some alcohol, which they forced her to drink.

The victim then passed out, and Miah raped her and Ahmed sexually assaulted her. When she regained consciousness, she found herself sat on the side of the road, near the car, in her underwear – with no recollection of how she had got there. The two men were stood near her, laughing at her.

The two men then made her drive with them while they collected various items of her clothing which they had abandoned during the journey and while they assaulted her. Once she had the clothing, they took her to Bow and let her leave the car. She went to the house of a friend which was near where she had been released and then reported the assaults to the police.

The victim was supported by specialist officers from the Metropolitan Police Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command (CASO), who also investigated the case. They were able to obtain CCTV footage from the shop where Miah and Ahmed had obtained the alcohol. This showed the men putting something inside the bottle of alcohol, which they then shook. This was later found to be the Class A drug MDMA. The two men were arrested a few days later.

•Mizad Miah, 24, of Bethnal Green Road, Tower Hamlets, was sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, 12 October, after being found guilty on 11 September of rape, administering a substance with intent to overpower to allow sexual activity, and assault by penetration.

Belal Ahmed, 24, of Devas Street, Tower Hamlets, was sentenced to 11 years’ imprisonment at the same court after being found guilty on 11 September of administering a substance with intent to overpower to allow sexual activity, and assault by penetration.

Detective Constable Danny Pridige, from CASO, said: “I would like to thank the victim for her great courage and strength in reporting this despicable incident. She gave invaluable evidence which was vital in ensuring these two dangerous men have been taken off our streets and put behind bars.”
