“IT WAS perfect, it’s something I’ve dreamt of,” West Ham Captain Jarrod Bowen told ITV after England played Ireland on Sunday, 17th November. England won the match 5-0.
“… when you finish your career, you want to tell your grandkids, tell your kids that you’ve scored for England. That was the main thing on my mind,” he continued.
Bowen was on the subs bench for most of the match, only coming on after 75 minutes – when England were leading 3-0. He had been on the pitch for less than a minute when Jude Bellingham took a free kick. Bowen pounced, sweeping the ball into the back of the net with his first touch.
“It was one of those where as soon as it left my boot, I knew it was a good contact,” Bowen told ITV. “Playing here for your country at Wembley is the pinnacle. I have all my family here as well, so for them to share that moment with me, it’s a very special night.”
●Bowen told the West Ham website how much he enjoys Christmas, which he celebrates with his extended family. Festivities start with his birthday on 20th December. Eighteen months ago his family grew, with the birth of twin daughters – and Bowen and his fiance Dani are looking forward to their first Christmas this year when the girls will be old enough to open their own presents.
However, the celebrating has to be restained as the festive season is dotted with football fixtures. This year there’s three games in ten days, with the third being against Southampton on Boxing Day. That’s followed by the last match of 2024 – at home to Liverpool on 29th December.
