A year in jail for every year of the life they took

HE WAS JUST 23 years old when he died. And now two of the three young men who murdered Abdulrahman Nassor Juma have been sentenced to life in prison – with a minimum term of 23 years. A third murderer will serve 32 years.

The three were found guilty at the Old Bailey on 4th July and returned to Court on 22nd July, where the following sentences were handed down.
•Iki Mohammed Ali, 24, of Maud Gardens, Barking was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to serve a minimum of 23 years in prison.
•Syed Fahad, 23, of Salisbury Avenue, Barking was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to serve a minimum of 23 years in prison.
•Jonathan Mulangala, 22, of Stonebridge Road, Tottenham was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering Abdulrahman, who was known as Mani. Mulangala was also sentenced for attempted murder of another male in a separate incident on 7th April 2018 and possession of an offensive weapon. He will serve 32 years for Abdulrahman’s murder, as well as 18 years for attempted murder and eight months for possession of an offensive weapon, all to be served concurrently.

A fourth man has also been charged with the murder of Mr Juma. He is aged 23 and will stand trial in December.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Considine, who led the murder investigation, said, “This was a deliberate, savage, targeted attack on a young man who was simply standing in the street minding his own business. I would like to thank the community who came forward with information. All of this has helped to deliver long sentences to each member involved in this shocking attack.

“Mulangala is a violent and dangerous man who has also been rightfully jailed for attempted murder on another man. They have all shown a total absence of remorse or compassion and will now spend a significant and deserved term in prison.

“My thoughts are with Mani’s family and I pay tribute to their strength and dignity before and during the trial; I hope that the severity of their sentences will bring them some peace of mind.”

Mr Nassor Mohammed, Mani’s father, said, “I would like to thank the police so much for all their efforts in bringing these men to justice. We as a family are truly grateful.”
