Al Qalam Little Heroes raise funds for Lonely Orphans

Emdad Rahman

AL QALAM ACADEMY students – “little heroes” – have been busy raising the profile of a charity which has been supporting orphans.

The Little Heroes project aims to raise money for Rohingya refugee children in Bangladesh and Uyghur refugee children in Turkey. Many of the refugee children are either orphans or have parents who have been detained in detention centres and prison.

Al Qalam is one of many schools across London which have been supporting the Little Heroes fundraising campaign organised by Lonely Orphans, a UK charity based in Whitechapel. The pupils of this East London supplementary education school in Barking & Dagenham decided to raise funds to support young people, like themselves – who face hardships and uncertainty. The children received goody bags and medals for their efforts, with the top three fundraisers receiving gold, silver and bronze medals in recognition of their work.

Fundraising manager Md Imran said, “I’m very happy to see how passionate the children were this year across school and study clubs in London. Great credit goes to the teachers and management team. I hope that they will continue to support important causes like these and help support a better life for these children.”
