Canning Town man gets 8 years for stabbing

A CONFRONTATION over his ex-partner’s new boyfriend turned violent – and it has seen Nathan Gunes, 38, of Cambus Road, Canning Town, E16, jailed for eight years.

Gunes followed the couple along Ingal Road, E13 on 20th October last year. Just after midnight the altercation broke out – and Gunes stabbed the male victim in the head, fracturing his skull.

The London Ambulance Service was called and took the victim to an East London hospital. Fortunately his injuries were not life-threatening.

The Metropolitan Police arrested Gunes later that day. He was charged with grievous bodily harm and convicted by a jury at Snaresbrook Crown Court. He was sentenced at the same hearing.

PC Meltem Duymus from Newham’s Community Support Unit commented, “Justice has most definitely been served for the victim who sustained a brutal head injury for no reason of his own. This is a great outcome for the Community Support Unit in Newham who are committed to taking violent thugs, such as Gunes, off the borough’s streets.”
