IT WAS A petty fight about an alleged drugs debt, but it led to one man losing his life and another man being convicted of murder and expecting to receive a life sentence when he returns to court next week.
Kwabena Boateng, 22, lived in Dod Street, E14. Mohamed Ensser, 33, was from Leyton. Ensser spent the evening of 21st September 2021 in Stamford Hill, before getting a cab to the Isle of Dogs with a friend. Boateng and two friends arrived in East Ferry Road on the Isle of Dogs on bicycles, just a few minutes before Ensser arrived.
As soon as Boateng saw Ensser, he accused Ensser of owing him money for drugs. An argument began, and Boateng pulled a knife out of his waistband. Ensser tried to get away, but he fell and Boateng was able to stab him. Boateng then got back on his bicycle and left the scene. Members of the public tried to help Ensser.
At 8.26pm police received reports that there had been a fight at East Ferry Road. They attended and found Mohamed Ensser, who had received multiple stab injuries. Officers administered first aid and were soon joined by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, but Mohamed could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene at 8.52pm. A post mortem examination later found that Ensser had bled to death after an artery in his neck had been cut.
The police investigation was carried out by the Specialist Crime unit. It took until 11th November for the police to find Boateng – hiding under a bed at a flat in Stewart Street, just a short distance from East Ferry Road. Boateng said nothing as police interviewed him, but they gathered CCTV evidence, witness statements and data from his phone and went on to charge him with murder.
On 29th July, Boateng was convicted at Snaresbrook Crown Court of murdering Mohamed Ensser, 33, and possession of a knife. He returns to the court on 3rd August for sentencing.
