IT WAS 18 MONTHS imprisonment and a five year criminal behaviour order for Arbias Thaqi, 18, as he was sentenced at Stratford Youth Court earlier this week for offences relating to the possession of material related to Daesh and sharing them online.
Thaqui had previously pleaded guilty to six counts of dissemination of terrorist material under section 2 of the Terrorism Act (TACT) 2006 and two counts of possession of documents of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism under section 58 TACT 2000.
Thaqi had been arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command last September. They seized two phones and a computer from his address. They examined the devices and found a range of Daesh propaganda and items such as bomb-making manuals.
There were both documents and videos on the devices, as well as chat log and evidence that Thaqui had been sharing material on encrypted apps. Thaqi was charged last November. He appeared at Westminster Youth Court on 16th February this year, where he pleaded guilty.
Commander Clarke Jarrett, Head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said, “Thaqi was collecting an array of terrorist-related content and he was then passing this on to others. It was important we intervened when we did to prevent him from further distributing this dangerous and harmful material – some of which included details on how to make explosive devices.”
•Commander Jarrett went on to encourage anyone who saw Daesh propaganda online, or other terrorist material, to report it immediately. reports can be made by calling the Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800-789 321 or online by going to:
