Emdad joins Parkrun 100 club

BARKING & DAGENHAM resident Emdad Rahman has been spreading a little happiness with the London Relay 2019. He has also had an eventful week in his quest to achieve two milestones.

The Dagenham 88 runner was joined by family, friends and team mates at Barking Park to complete 100 Parkruns – and join an exclusive club.

Just before achieving the milestone, Emdad, who works and volunteers in Tower Hamlets seven days a week, took part in the 10K London Relay to support The Running Charity and young homeless citizens. He completed his leg of the Relay during his lunch hour.

Speaking after the run Emdad said, “Homelessness is a huge passion of mine so I needed very little convincing to join this complete group of strangers in taking part in this 24/7 one month relay. Hopefully our efforts will raise lots of money and, more importantly, huge awareness. We start and finish on the doorstep of Mayor Sadiq Khan and the hugely diverse runners are of all skin tones, cultures, shapes and sizes. Well done everybody for a mammoth effort!”

Thanks to the support of sponsors and partners, the London Relay has returned and the organisers aim to create a radically inclusive community that transcends all postcodes while challenging the city’s social issues

The Relay – a 24/7 baton exchange run of 5k and 10k – will bring together runners from near and far to help support The Running Charity and the thousands of young people across London who are homeless right now, facing the real threat of another night alone on the streets.

Through violence, abuse, neglect and mental health problems young people become homeless because it’s safer to leave home than to stay. Every hour of every loop of the London Relay, a shocking eleven young people ask their local authority for help because they are either homeless or at risk.

Over 80,000 young people in the UK are homeless right now and, with homeless young people almost twice as likely to die as their non-homeless peers, there is an urgent need to support The Running Charity to transform young lives.

With this in mind The London Relay are proud to be partnering with The Running Charity who are on the frontline, transforming these young lives through the power of running.

Danny Bent, London Relay Founder said, “Young people have their whole lives ahead of them. They just need the opportunity to turn their lives around. The Running Charity create this opportunity. By donating and fundraising you can help provide long-term solutions to the problem.”
