Girl group attacks woman in Shoreditch

IT SEEMS to have been an unprovoked attack, carried out by a group of young women in Shoreditch Park, N1, at approximately 7.30pm on 27th February. The victim was also a woman – in her 20s.

The victim was walking through the park with her shopping when four teenage girls whom she did not know surrounded her, punched her in the face and further hit and kicked her until she fell to the ground.  It seems that they were trying to steal from her.

A passing cyclist saw what was going on and shouted at the girls, who then ran off down Grange Street. From there they crossed Pitfield Street and disappeared into a housing estate.  The victim was left in pain and bruised from the attack. The police would like to find the girls who carried out the assault – before they carry out a second attack, possibly with more serious consequences.

Although the attack was three months ago, the police have now been able to release CCTV images. They hope that this may result in a member of the public helping them to identify and locate the girls.

Detective Constable Michael Beskine, from Central East Command CID, investigates. He said: “This was an awful, unprovoked attack and has left the victim shaken and angry by what happened. I have conducted extensive enquiries but now I am asking the public to come forward and help me. I want to make sure that those responsible are caught and do not inflict this sort of pain on someone else.

“If you know something, please come forward. It was a horrible assault on someone who had never laid eyes on her attackers before. Tackling violence continues to be the Met’s top priority. We will continue to work tirelessly to identify and pursue offenders, help bring perpetrators to justice, support victims, and keep our communities safe.”

Anyone who recognises the girls in the CCTV image or who has any other information which may assist the inquiry is asked to contact the police via 101. Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111 and give information anonymously.
