THREE OUTSTANDING achievements helped Team GB heptathlete Katie Stainton earn silver for herself and bronze for the British team at the European Combined Event Team Championships in Lutsk, in the Ukraine.
Katie managed two personal bests on the first day of competition, clearing 1.78m in the high jump and reaching 12.3m in the shotput. She went on to excel in day two, running the 800m in 2 minutes, 9.31 seconds – almost four seconds faster than her previous personal best in that event.
Her brilliant results added up to give her a silver medal and 6,029 points – the first time she has broken the 6,000 point threshold. Her efforts helped the British Team come third and gain a coveted bronze medal.
Katie, 24, is a member of Birchfield Harriers. After the record score she expressed her delight – and tweeted her thanks to her coaches. Katie’s now working towards her next goal: representing Britain in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
