Women woken by sex attacker on Isle of Dogs

A SEX ATTACKER is still at loose, after breaking into two flats on the Isle of Dogs and assaulting a woman as she slept. Police have now released brief CCTV footage of the man and are appealing for the public to help them identify him.

It was early morning – around 6am on Sunday, 12th May, in a flat in Glengarnock Avenue, near the junction with Manchester Road. The female resident was woken to find a man in her bedroom, sexually assaulting her. The victim fled and the perpetrator left the flat by the front door.

Police were called – and soon realised that the attacker had been seen in another flat in the same block just moments earlier. The occupants of that flat had woken up to find a man in their bedroom – but he turned and left the flat before the shocked residents had time to act.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 20s. He was wearing a black coat with a white collar and white trainers.

Detective Constable Daniel Cooke, from the Metropolitan Police Central East CID, said, “This was a terrifying assault for a young woman who woke up to find someone in her own bedroom, a place she should have been safe. We are keen to hear from anyone who might recognise the man in this image, particularly from the clothing he can be seen wearing.”

The police are stressing that any information could be useful to their inquiries, even if it seems like a small piece of information to you. Anyone who has information is asked to call 101 and quote reference 1575/12May.
