A SUCCESSFUL tournament organised by London Sportif was delivered jointly at the Newham leisure centre and the London Enterprise Academy in Tower Hamlets.

One hundred and eight teams from all over the country – including London, Birmingham, Cambridge, Luton, Portsmouth and Kent – took part in the tournament, singlehandedly one of the biggest badminton tournaments in the Bangladeshi community. The nationwide tournament was held in partnership with Canary Wharf group plc.

Guests attending the presentation ceremony included Canary Wharf Group Associate Director Dr Zakir Khan; Bangladesh Cricket Board Director Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel; Deputy Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Councillor Motin Uz Zaman; Newham Councillor Ayesha Chowdhury; and London Enterprise Academy Principal Ashid Ali.

Speaking after the event, Muhi Mikdaad of the organising team commented, “This had been a tremendous day. Thank you everyone for such great support!”

London Enterprise Academy Principal Ashid Ali rescued proceedings by offering to host the finale of the tournament at the school due to time constraints and proceedings running over in Newham.

This was also a historical first. He added, “Badminton is a rich and all encompassing sport and pastime. It is inclusive and caters for all abilities. I am a passionate advocate of community health matters and was more than happy to support such a great event. Congratulations to the winners and all participants.”
