There are surprisingly few statements about the Manchester attack being made in Tower Hamlets. Here we print a statement from the East London Mosque and then such comments from prominent party political leaders as we have been able to find.
East London Mosque
We are shocked and saddened by the appalling criminal attack in Manchester last night. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families of this attack.
Such barbaric acts of violence can never be attributed to any faith, nor should we let it divide our communities. We praise the response of the emergency services that have helped save lives yesterday.
We note that reprisal attacks on mosques have taken place. We urge all in the community to remain vigilant in this difficult time.

Theresa May commented during a press update:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and the families and friends of all those affected.”
Tower Hamlets Conservatives tweeted:
“Following last night’s awful events, our campaigning is suspended until further notice.”
Tower Hamlets Liberal Democrats tweeted:
“We’re devastated by the news from Manchester overnight. Our thoughts are with the friends and families of the victims caught up in this.”
Tower Hamlets Green Party tweeted:
“Our thoughts with everyone in Manchester and the emergency services doing a tough job in trying circumstances.”
John Biggs, Mayor of Tower Hamlets, said:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Manchester after last night’s heartless and cowardly attack. Nothing can ever justify the murder of innocent children.
“Londoners know the dreadful impact these attacks can have and we all stand in solidarity with the people of Manchester. It is more important than ever that we stand shoulder to shoulder to show that these cowardly attacks will not divide us, nor do the attackers represent any race or religion.
“It is only right that there is an increased police presence on our streets to reassure and protect our community. I would urge residents to report anything suspicious to police.”
He also tweeted:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Manchester after last night’s heartless and cowardly attack. East London stands with you.”
Rushanara Ali
“My thoughts and prayers this morning are with the all those in Manchester who were victims of last night’s terrorist attack. Targeting a music concert filled with young people and children is a despicable and cowardly act and I commend the heroic work and professionalism of the region’s emergency services in responding to last night’s incident. At both a national and local level political campaigning for the General Election will be suspended until further notice. In the coming days, following an attack such as last night, we must be vigilant against those who try to exploit public anxieties. We must reassure everyone that our communities will remain united against those who seek to destroy our way of life.”
