Mental health project aims to raise awareness through outreach

Emdad Rahman

The Lighted Path, a new Tower Hamlets-based mental health project, is launching on Sunday, 5th June 2016 at Sir John Macdougal Gardens, 121 Westferry Road, London E14. The project aims to raise awareness of mental health, and volunteers will be engaging with the community to offer advice, support and information.

The scenic outdoor event will include stalls, talks, competitions and guest appearances from local personalities. Any funds raised will be donated to the Muslim Hands Charity to feed the needy during the coming month of Ramadan.

Project Manager Hajira Mahbub said: “Mental health affects individuals, families and communities. Many people remain undiagnosed because they feel afraid to engage whilst others lack a strong support network. Our aim is to be a trusting friend whilst trying to raise awareness of the major effects mental health has on communities.”
