PC MILADUR KHAN, 30, who was attached to the East Area Command Unit, is today beginning a six month prison sentence after admitting perverting the course of justice at a hearing on 2nd May at Southwark Crown Court. The sentence was handed down on 30th May.
The crime began when two motor vehicles collided in Burdett Road, E14, on 29th June last year. PC Khan said that he was one of the drivers involved. He confirmed this several times under questioning. However, Tower Hamlets CCTV proved that he was not involved.
The driver whom PC Khan claimed to be was in fact his younger brother, Mured Khan, 26, of Stepney Way. PC Khan was trying to protect him from being questioned by police. Once the CCTV blew the younger man’s cover, police investigated and later charged him with driving without insurance.
Mured Khan pleaded guilty to the offence at Thames Magistrates’ Court on 12th April. He was disqualified from driving for six months, fined £200 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and court costs of £85.
PC Khan, who was suspended from duty when he was charged, will now face a special case misconduct hearing, which will consider his future in the police force.
