THE 61 YEAR OLD man who was assaulted in Plaistow Park last Thursday morning, 30th May, has died. He died in hospital on Sunday, 2nd June, having suffered a serious head injury during the attack.
Although formal identification is still awaited, the victim has been named as Steven Kennedy, of Plaistow. Mr Kennedy’s next of kin are aware of his death. A post mortem will take place shortly to establish the cause of death.
The Homicide and Major Crime Command was leading the investigation into the assault and it will now continue to investigate the circumstances of Mr Kennedy’s death. The police had already arrested two men, one of whom has been charged with Grievous Bodily Harm and has already made an initial appearance in court. Police are most concerned to find witnesses as they try to piece together what happened in the Park that morning.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Considine, who is leading the investigation, said, “We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the park at the time and who might have seen the incident or events leading up to it. Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could help us move forward with our investigation.”
