Police still trying to solve the spice raid

TWO YOUNG MEN made off with an unusual haul after breaking into a warehouse in Ilford. The pair left with 10kg of saffron, leaving everything else in the warehouse untouched – so it seems that they knew just what they were going for.

Saffron is one of the most expensive spices in the world – often thought to be worth more than gold, weight for weight. The 10kg the thieves made off with could be worth in the region of £50,000.

Police from the North East CID are investigating the crime. Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Laura Mills explained why the police are taking the theft seriously. “This is someone’s livelihood and this theft will, of course, impact their business,” she said. “The victims are angry and upset that someone has done this to them. It’s important that those who are responsible are caught and the spice is returned to its rightful owners.”

DS Mills also appealed to the public for help. “I’m releasing this CCTV because I need information,” she said. “Someone knows something about this burglary and I am appealing to them to contact our team. If you have any information, no matter how insignificant you think it might be, please contact us.”

Anyone who has any information which may help the police investigation is asked to ring them via 101. Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111 and give information anonymously.
