Police want witnesses to fatal collision in Hackney

A MOPED driver died in a collision with a car on Thursday, 15th October. The collision occurred on the Lea Bridge Road, near Chatsworth Road, in Hackney, just after 7pm.

Now the Metropolitan Police are asking for anyone who witnessed the accident to come forward and help them with their investigation.

The car, a Vauxhall Zafira, collided with the Yamaha moped. The London Ambulance Service came to the scene, but the moped driver was, sadly, declared dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

The police were also present at the scene. They spoke to the driver of the car, a 64 year old man. They arrested him on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was held in custody.

Acting Detective Inspector Faye Cook, who is leading the investigation at the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our condolences are with the moped driver’s family at this very difficult time.” She then appeared for witnesses, saying, “As part of our investigation, I am asking anyone who was travelling in the area at the time and has dashcam footage, or information which could be relevant, to please contact us.”

●Anyone who has any information which could help the police is asked to ring them on 101, and quote reference CAD 6377/15OCT.
