Emdad Rahman of Stepney FC has been named the manager and head coach of Bangladesh in the first ever Inner London Football League Veterans World Cup.
The multicultural football festival involving ten teams made up entirely of inner city footballers over the age of 35 will attract huge interest – especially with London being one of the most diverse cities in the world.
Emdad now has a matter of weeks to scout and finalise a crack squad of 16 in time for these historic championships.
Speaking at Mabley Green after his appointment, Emdad said, “Our city is a universal example of diversity and the fact that our differences can be celebrated through football is simply amazing. Of course this is a moment of great pride for me to lead Bangladesh and I’m very grateful for the opportunity.”
Inner London Football League chair Koys Miah commented, “We feel we have made the correct choice in Emdad and look forward to him leading the Bangladesh team in July. This is a celebration of differences and the tournament will be a fantastic spectacle.”
ILFL vice chair Rashid Ali concluded, “We put a great deal of thought into selecting the manager. In community football our roles are a lot more diverse and we are confident in our decision. The Inner City World Cup promises to be a football extravaganza which will celebrate, unite and showcase the very best our community has to offer.”
Emdad’s assistants will be Muhammed Nashir and Abdul Hamid Yusuf.
The Inner London Football League veterans World Cup will take place on Sunday 8th July 2018.
