Normal service resumed as London Tigers celebrated lifting The Veterans League Cup after beating league champions Weavers 3-1 in an entertaining finale to the winter season.
With the morale boosting win, Tigers gained revenge on Weavers FC after the Whitechapel based outfit had last week pipped them to The Veterans League title. It takes Tigers tally to a record five wins in the competition.
In the final of The Veterans League cup between the two best teams in the league, Tigers stamped their authority on the game right from the go, and a brace from Abdul Wahid in between another from Tarik Ellekhlifi saw the Tangerines home and dry.
Weavers looked laboured, and after winning three trophies in the last eight months this was one game too many for Atiqur Rahman’s battlers. And so it was three crisp finishes from Tigers which saw Mesba Ahmed’s side win the final trophy of the winter league.
Centre back Abdal Ahmed played the whole game nursing an injury after breaking his ribs whilst playing for Shadwell against Barnados in the Veterans Summer League a week ago.
The Tigers star said: “We were deeply disappointed to lose The Veterans League to Weavers who are a team that have toppled opponents with their grit and spirit. They have made many friends with their recent football heroics and we were determined to halt their winning streak.
“Tonight was about control and expressing ourselves. Our finishing was spot on and I think on the night we were deserved winners. Hard luck to Weavers – they have been great ambassadors for senior football at this level.”
