HACKNEY POLICE have offered a reward of up to £20,000 for information which leads to the conviction of the killer of Alex Vanderpuye, 24, in Hackney back in December 2017.
Alex lived in Hackney – and police found him in Christie Road at 4.45pm on 7th December 2017. He had been stabbed. Paramedics battled to save him, but Alex died as a result of his injury at 5.20pm.
Police recovered a metallic green Mercedes and believe this is the vehicle which brought the assailants to the scene of the attack.
Three men, aged 26, 25 and 21 – were arrested on suspicion of murder five days after Alex was killed, and a further five men were arrested on suspicion of murder on later dates. However, they have all been released under investigation.
The police need some extra information if they are going to prosecute in this case – hence the offer of reward. Until that extra evidence is found, one or murderers remains on the streets.
Detective Chief Inspector John Marriott, from the Metropolitan Police Homicide and Major Crime Command, who is leading the investigation, explained what is motivating the police here. “I believed that despite the passage of time, there are still members of the public who have information that is vital to our investigation,” he said. “Our enquiries are continuing and the investigation remains live. I hope that now that some considerable time has elapsed, someone may feel that they can now come forward and assist the investigation.
“It is my hope that the reward, which is available to anyone who provides information leading to an arrest, charge or conviction of those responsible, will encourage anyone who can help to come forward.
“Hackney is a busy, vibrant borough and we know that the attack took place at a time when lots of people would have been around. Some of Alex’s friends were with him at the time and we are also directly appealing to them to come forward as we believe they have vital information. We are also looking for anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the vicinity of Christie Road at the junction with Cassland Road from around the 16:30hrs on that day – Thursday, 7 December in 2017.
“Alex is survived by his father and his older brother who want, and deserve, justice.”
