Orient rings the changes

MORE TEAM changes have been announced at Leyton Orient as the Club tries to use the summer to assemble a winning team for next season.

Orient will be sorry to see the departure of Macauley Bonne – top scorer for the last two seasons, who hit the back of the net 49 times in 102 matches. Bonne delivered over 20 league goals a season for two years: the first Orient player to reach this milestone since Club legend Tommy Johnston.

Bonne, who came to the Orient on a free transfer from Colchester United two years ago – almost to the day – is heading off for Charlton Athletic. Though Bonne will be missed in E10 for his goals and as a team member, the 23 year old will relish the task of helping Athletic make the most of their recent promotion to the Championship.

Coming on board, however, is Conor Wilkinson, who joins Orient from Dagenham & Redbridge. Wilkinson, who is 24 and 6’3”, spent four years at Bolton Wanderers – some of which he spent on loan to other clubs.

In 2017 Wilkinson moved permanently to Gillingham, where he clocked up 50 appearances, including seven in League One games. He then moved to Dagenham & Redbridge. As he did the rounds in English Clubs, Wilkinson found time to play for the Republic of Ireland youth teams, including 13 appearances, and two goals, for the Ireland Under-21s.
