The world’s eyes were on Stratford during the Oympics this summer – and Westfield Stratford City’s not about to let that change. The shopping centre has invited international popstar Rihanna to pop over to theEast End and turn on their Christmas lights.
It all starts at 5pm on Monday, when Rihanna will take her place on the stage in Cherry Park, within Westfield Stratford City. She will be joined by Young Ambassadors from Save the Children, which is Westfield’s charity partner this Christmas. Together they will count down to the switch on of the lights. As Monday is also the day on which Rihanna’s new album Unapologetic is being launched in theUK, she will round off her Stratford appearance by performing Diamonds, the new single from that album, with a special pyrotechnic and laser display.
Rihanna’s Diamonds world tour begins on 8th March next year and includes a show at Twickenham Stadium on 15th June. Ticket sales begin at 9am on Tuesday, 20th November (tickets www.livenation.co.uk or www.ticketmaster.co.uk).
Save the Children works not only to save children’s lives but also to help children access their rights and fulfil their potential. Eight million children under the age of five die each year. Money raised at Westfield this Christmas will be donated to Save the Children’s No Child Born to Die campaign, which works to reduce the numbers of these deaths.
