SCINTILLA COMPLETED a season’s double over Hawks CC to claim pole position in the run in for the Essex County Cricket League Premier Division.
An in-form Junaed Rahman Tanin added 67 runs to the Scintilla scoreboard after Mohammad Badrul Alam Chowdhury (Bappy) reached 40 before falling to Hubert Ryan. The ever dependable Ishaq Shawn chalked up 34 before Tristan Hammond’s measured delivery was caught by Shakib Shovon for a clean dismissal.
Hubert also claimed the scalp of Scintilla debutant Umer Dar on 29, before Sajal Rahman was bowled and caught by David Sweeney for 21. Sweeney also took the crucial wicket of Juwel Roy (15). Hammond also collected the wickets of Rokhan Arafat and Ayaz Karim to finish with 5 wickets. Ahmed Choudhury was run out by Joshua Cole.
After tea a confident batting start from Hawks was disrupted as Morshadur Rahman bowled Kirk Samuels and Atik Sindha for 17 and 22 respectively. Rahman and Roy had teamed up for the wicket of Sindha and repeated the trick with Shakib Shovon.
Bappy took the wicket of Marcus Elwin (14) with Shawn claiming Petrus William (10) and Jason Samuels (20). Arafat dismissed Lance Lord for 6 and Sajal Rahman wrapped up proceedings with the wickets of tail enders Cole and Sweeney both for 0.
Reigning champions Barking CC remain handily placed 8 points behind Scintilla in third place, with a game in hand. Newham CC are 4 points behind Scintilla in second, with 148 points.
Scintilla Captain Ahmed Choudhury said, “It’s a confidence boost to top the table, but it’s too tight to call at the top. What is great about us is that there’s always someone to step up to the plate. The squad is sound and the togetherness we have brings the best out of each other. Our focus remains the same: build on and maintain a winning run, one match at a time.”
