At the start of the league season, Scintilla Cricket Club’s Second XI emulated the achievements of the senior team by notching up a win in the season’s opener. In this year’s first Essex County Cricket League fixture, Scintilla II saw off Aztecs Cricket Club at the London Marathon Playing Fields.

Scintilla II won the toss and decided to bat. Zahied Hussain put in a notable shift at the crease as the opener struck 92. He was joined by Yasin Arafat (47). Chishty (not out) and Tanvir scored 19 apiece.

Scintilla reached 247/10 from 43 overs. Their opponents ran them close. Aztecs reached 232/10 from 42 overs. Tanvir and Moin took three scalps apiece, with Adnan (2) and Riadh (1), to ensure a Scintilla II a win by 15 runs.

Captain Shaha Riadh said: “We were unfortunate to miss out on promotion last year through too many bad weather days. The boys are focussed and we aim to give it one hundred percent for the season ahead. If we do that we will do very well.”
