Sonali Othith Masters reaches halfway point

An exquisite back heel from Soleman Hussain in the third week’s first game gave Dawatul Islam the lead, but his team conceded two in the last two minutes to lose 3-1 to favourites Poplar. The latter followed up with another dramatic late win against CAG to round off an unbeaten night – reserving special praise for opposing player Abdul Kalam for another night of outstanding goalkeeping.

Dawatul Islam duly bounced back with a 5-2 victory against Shagor. In other results Shadwell beat Ocean 2-1 but lost their second game 3-2 to Shagor. Ocean rounded off a disappointing night to lose 3-2 to CAG.

Dawatul Islam captain Abdul Hamid said: “We were disappointed to lose to Poplar in what many tipped to be a decider but the boys rallied round to pull of a morale boosting win. With two weeks to go there could still be surprises left in this tournament.”

Azad Khan from Shagor said: “Well done to Dawatul Islam on beating us. I think we showed character to come back and beat Shadwell 3-2. Roll on next week.”

Sonali Othith chairman Dawlath Khan Babul said: “We’ve enjoyed another fun night of competitive games. The teams have shown great energy and enthusiasm and we look forward to next week, which promises another action packed evening of high tempo football.”
